Commuter Choices Week (CCW) is held annually throughout Florida to encourage commuters to pursue different commute options. Changing transportation habits for even a short period of time can help reduce air pollution, eliminate traffic congestion, decrease stress, save money, and build a better community. Commuters across the Sunshine State are urged to try walking, bicycling, public transit, carpooling, vanpooling, teleworking or worksite flextime to see how they can make a positive impact on their health and the environment.

Over the past two decades, the average delay faced by commuters in the 75 largest cities in America jumped from seven hours to 26. Rush hour covers nearly six hours now, and the "rush hour" trip is 40% longer than the same trip at other times of the day.

Traffic congestion has led to 3.5 billion hours of delay and 5.7 billion gallons of excess fuel consumed.

It's wasteful, aggravating and unnecessary. But it's an area that you can help change.

Participation is encouraged at all levels, whether it is one person for one day or a whole company for an entire week. Our hope is that the benefits - cleaner air, money saved, and reduced traffic and stress - received during CCW will motivate participants to continue with the program year-round.
